With the initial 6 years spent at Narayana Hrudayalaya, Kolkata - initially training and then as senior resident after passing the board certification. Followed by a year at Medanta Heart Institute Lucknow as Associate Consultant -2020. And then as a staff surgeon at B M Birla Heart Research Centre - 2021 This was followed by a 2 years Overseas Fellowship at the Greenlane Unit in Auckland 2021-23. Greenlane Cardiothoracic Service by volume is the largest service in Australia and NZ and is hailed as one of the premier training units where some of the doyens of Indian Cardiac Surgery have trained and worked. Sir Brian Gerald Barratt-Boyes of the Kirklin and Barratt-Boyes fame, whose textbook even today remains a cardiac surgeon’s bible, was one of the early pioneers from the unit. It was here I expanded my exposure in Heart Lung Transplants including subspecialty training in lung transplant at the Toronto-Vienna Lung Transplant Academy and hands-on training at Vienna General Hospital ( under the aegis Prof. Walter Klepetko and Prof Konrad Hoetzenecker)

Highlights of my training remain

  • Special Training on Organ Care and Organ Transport System (viz. Transmedics, XViVO, Paragonix)
  • Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion - training on both Scandinavian and Toronto protocol

Extensive ECMO Experience

  • ELSO 101 Certification
  • Exclusively working in an ELSO ICU
  • liost cardiotomy ECMO
  • eCPR
  • pre-transplant ECMO
  • ECMO transport
  • ECMO retrievals
  • remain some of the forte from my training

Also gained during training and fellowship was valuable and In-depth exposure of

  • Complex Aortic work including a full range of surgery for dissection, aneurysm including hybrid approaches and TEVAR. In the Cardiac surgical community, Auckland is colloquially referred to as the aortic dissection capital of the world.
  • Proctor training for Perceval and Perceval Plus sutureless Valves. Including Joe Lamelas’ Miami technique of mini AVR.
  • Surgical support and join decision-making for multi-approach TAVI teams.
  • Exposure to Multi Arterial Coronary Revascularization including the Melbourne protocol of extensive use of Radial grafts as well as Bilateral Mammary Arteries.
  • Mitral Valve Repair with a special focus on annuloplasty training by David Adams’ mentee on the CE Physio II ring. Hands-on exposure in extremely novel techniques like the Roman Arch technique from Singapore. Mini mitrals and other complex repairs.
