The huge turnout for the 42-km Mumbai marathon this Sunday surprised Dr Aashish Contractor, Director of the Centre for Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine Consultant at the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. “People are getting active and exercising outdoors, which is good for every part of their body, including heart health,” says he. And given the rising number of heart attacks among the young, taking up running from a younger age for at least 10 minutes a day can significantly lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.
