Dr Smita Nagaonkar, consultant and section co-ordinator, ENT, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai told News9, “Around 430 million worldwide require rehabilitation for disabling hearing loss. On average. People with hearing loss wait on average for seven years before seeking help. Nearly 60 per cent of hearing loss in children is due to causes that can be prevented through proper health interventions. Around 25 per cent of adults are affected by disabling hearing loss. Deafness not only affects the individual but also their family, their friends and even the economy. Without proper treatment, it can lead to medical, financial, physical and emotional complications.”
