Home/ News / Exercise-induced asthma: Can asthma attacks get triggered by exercise?

Dr. Richa Mittal, Consultant, Pulmonary Medicine, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital says, “In such patients of asthma, the airways in the lungs ‘constrict’ or narrow during exercise and usually occurs 10 to 15 minutes after starting to exercise. In most cases, the symptoms go away after about 1 hour.”

Precautions that are to be taken while exercising:
Avoid going out for exercise in very cold, dry air which can make symptoms worse. Avoid exercising in polluted air, or around pollen or mold if you are allergic. If at all you are going outdoors on such a day it is better to wear loose mask or scarf while exercising to minimise the effect.
