Dr. Rupin Shah is one of the senior most Andrologists in India. After completing his super-specialization (M.Ch.) in Urology in 1986 he went to Belgium for training in Andrological microsurgery and was the first urologist from India to have this training. Since then he has pioneered microsurgery and other procedures for the treatment of male infertility and erectile dysfunction in India.

Dr. Shah has developed several new techniques and procedures in Andrology. His work on penile revascularization for erectile dysfunction was awarded the Best Video prize at the 6th World meeting on Impotence in Singapore in 1994. The Shah Indian penile prosthesis developed by him is the most commonly used penile implant in India. His innovative technique for microsurgical repair of obstructive azoospermia received the Best Video prize from the Urological Society of India in 2000, and his new technique for sperm retrieval in men with non-obstructive azoospermia was presented at the annual meeting of the American Urology Association in 2004.

For his pioneering role in developing Andrology in India he received the prestigious Dr. B C Roy Award from the President of India in 2008, and he is currently the Convener for Post Doctoral FNB in Andrology of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences.

He has published numerous papers, chapters and books, and holds many important academic positions. He is the founding President of the South Asian Society for Sexual Medicine, senior advisor to the Global Andrology Forum, Associate Editor of the scientific journal “Fertility and Reproduction” and is in on several global committees of the International Society of Sexual Medicine.

In addition to his association with the IVF department of the Well Women’s Centre of the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, he is senior Consultant at the Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, and is visiting Consultant at the Fakih IVF center in Dubai.
