Dr. Madhuri Shimpi Mahajan is an Additional Co-Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, and Theragnostics at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital

She has over 17 years of rich experience in the specialty of Nuclear Medicine with expertise across a wide spectrum of various Nuclear Medicine services including PET-CT imaging, PET-CT guided applications in Oncology and benign conditions like aortoarteritis, infections, therapeutic radionuclide applications including thyroid disorders, neuroendocrine tumors, bone pain palliation, radiation synovectomy, radioembolization procedures for hepatocellular cancer and liver metastasis.

She has earlier worked at various large corporate and postgraduate teaching hospitals like Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, Nanavati max super specialty hospital, Bombay Hospital, Mumbai, P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & MRC, Manipal hospital, Bangalore, Sitaram Bhartiya Institute of Science & Research and Saral diagnostics, Delhi.

She is a fellow of the European and Asian board of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT.

She is a member of the Indian college of Nuclear medicine.

She also holds a post-graduate degree in the hospital and healthcare management in addition to a post-graduate degree in medicolegal issues.

She was a part of a team that started pre-therapy diagnostic somatostatin receptor scan imaging with isotope 177Lutetium at P. D. Hinduja National Hospital, and subsequently, it was studied at various nuclear medicine centers across India. After training in radiolabelled peptide receptor therapy at “Royal Liverpool University Hospital”, Liverpool, UK, in 2009, she was instrumental in setting up this cancer therapy in the private sector as a part of P. D. Hinduja Hospital activity.

She has excellent knowledge in every aspect of low-dose radioactive iodine treatment planning for hyperthyroidism from pre-treatment assessment, making treatment management decisions, post-treatment evaluation and further management. 

She is well versed in handling the Isolation Ward Facility for High Dose Radio-active Iodine (131I) Therapy for patients of Thyroid Carcinoma and other radio-nuclide therapies like metastatic bone pain palliation therapy, radiation synovectomy, Lutetium-177 therapy for Neuro-Endocrine and prostate malignancies.  She has also worked on Yttrium theraspheres and SIR-Spheres for Liver neoplasm.  She is committed to the precise and optimal utilization of the various radionuclide therapies at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital.

She has tremendous experience in Sentinel node imaging and detection in breast and head & neck cancer patients.

She is a recognized teacher, practical examiner and theory assessor for DNB Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT.  She is actively involved in the training program of postgraduate courses conducted at various hospitals where she has worked.  This involves delivering lectures, conducting seminars, and joint clinics and appropriately teaching the students and guiding them for their thesis/ dissertation. She has conducted various academic programs like CMEs, and journal clubs at the regional level.

She has been a Topper in PG entrance held for Nuclear Medicine faculty by Christian Medical College in the year 2008. She was a Topper of the examination conducted by Bhabha Atomic Research center in April 2005 for the course of diploma in radiation medicine and also a topper in the radiation safety officer examinations held in 2007.

In extracurricular activities, she is an excellent chess player and has won the trophy consecutively for 4 years during her MBBS. She also got an award of one of the bests outgoing students during her MBBS. 

She has numerous publications to her credit.
