Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin is a Mentor of Indias largest and one of the worlds most successful liver transplant program and the Department of Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
His vast experience includes over >3200 liver transplants, which are the highest in the country. Dr. Soin has also performed more than 15000 other complex liver, gall bladder and bile duct surgeries, & is renowned for his pioneer work in establishing liver transplantation in India. He is responsible for training most of the liver teams in the country.
Dr Arvinder Singh Soin trained at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi where he gained his MBBS and MS (Surgery) degrees followed by specialist training in Liver and Gastrointestinal Surgery. He holds FRCS degrees from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and trained at the University of Cambridge for 5 years and University of Birmingham -1 year in Hepato-biliary Surgery and Liver and Abdominal Organ Transplantation. He was among the first few surgeons in the UK to be awarded ‘Intercollegiate FRCS in Transplant Surgery’. He was a Surgical Fellow in 1997 and 2000 at Kyoto University and Asian Medical Centre (Seoul) respectively and underwent training in live donor liver transplant (LDLT) procedures.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin was Surgical Tutor at Cambridge University, and Faculty at two centres of Royal Colleges in Surgery. He is recognized in the liver transplant fraternity globally for pioneering liver transplantation in India. Since1998, after performing the country’s first successful transplant, he has established three major liver transplant and advanced liver surgery centres at Apollo Hospital (1998-2001), SGRH (2001-2010), and now since 2010, at Medanta-The Medicity, Gurgaon (Delhi NCR). He has published 161 research papers and 17 book chapters, and delivered more than 1000 invited lectures and papers all over the world and currently is a nominated appointee for National Advisory Committee on Organ Donation and an editorial board member for many national and internal Journals.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin has received numerous awards and honours including the National Civilian Honour – the ‘Padma Shri’ for pioneering the development of Liver Transplantation in India in 2010, RD Birla Award for the Best Clinician of the Year in 2010, Zee TV – Swasth Bharat Samman Award for excellence in Medicine - in 2011, Medical Statesman of the Year – e-MEDINEWS AWARDS in 2012, Doc n Doc award for Excellence in Liver Transplantation in 2014 and the MT India Healthcare Award for pioneering and establishing Liver Transplantation in India in 2016.
