Dr Rithin Rathnakar is a Consultant Cardio-thoracic Surgeon at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
Dr Rithin Rathnakar graduated from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, in 2007. He completed his MS (General Surgery) in 2010 from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He trained in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and earned MCh from Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospital, affiliated to the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi University, in 2014.
Dr Rithin Rathnakar worked as a Junior Consultant at the Seven Hills Hospital, Mumbai, from September 2014 to March 2017. During this period, he operated at the Seven Hills Hospital, Vishakhapatnam, too as a visiting surgeon. He then joined Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, in March 2017 as a Senior Consultant.
In 2018, Dr Rithin was selected for an Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at the historic Greenlane Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CTSU), Auckland City Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. Being the only transplant centre in the country, Auckland City Hospital provides thoracic organ transplant services to the whole population of New Zealand. He was selected as the lead transplant retrieval surgeon for his tenure at the centre. Greenalane CTSU also sees a large number of aortic emergencies, thus making it a high-volume aortic surgery centre.
Dr Rithin Rathnakar re-joined Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, in May 2020 and worked there as a Senior Consultant till July 2021 in the department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Heart transplant.
