Experience
More than 22 years of experience in the field of Oncology

Dr. Dandekar brings in diverse experience with several world class institutions, in heading the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sir H N Reliance Foundation. He is trained at the apex cancer institute of India, the Tata Memorial Hospital (2001 – 2006) where he pursued his MD and DNB in Radiation Oncology. Thereafter, he was selected for the fellowship in Head and Neck Cancers at the globally renowned oncology centre, The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital at London, UK (2007 – 2009). He is passionate about raising cancer awareness and conducts many online as well as offline activities to spread awareness about the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers.

He also brings in a unique experience of setting up and heading new departments of Radiation Oncology at renowned institutions such as Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bangalore (2009 – 2010), Sir L H Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai (2010 – 2014) and Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital (2014 – till date).

Dr. Dandekar specialises in precision radiotherapy techniques, which are aimed at targeting the cancer with extreme precision and hence reducing side effects of radiation. He has been an early adopter of several cutting-edge technologies in oncology. He is the pioneer of Surface Guided Radiotherapy in India (2015), and also one of the first adopters of the precision radiotherapy technique Rapid Arc in India (2010). He is the first to have designed and run a Radiation Oncology Department in a completely digital and paperless manner (2014).

Dr. Dandekar believes in keeping abreast of the latest developments in oncology and regularly organises oncology conferences with national and international collaborations. He is also a much sought-after speaker. He has served as an Executive Committee member of the Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology, which is a multi-specialty national society for Head-Neck Cancer in India.

Dr. Dandekar was selected for the prestigious Kamal Nayan Bajaj Fellowship of the Ananta Aspen Centre for young leaders (2018), which seeks to develop a new generation of values-based action-oriented leaders to serve India. He is a trained counsellor (Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling – PGDIC) and emphasises on the mental wellness of the patients along with physical wellness. He is an International Coaching Federation Certified Professional Coach (CPC) and focuses on coaching for cancer patients for helping them achieve their highest potential. He is passionate about many social causes and has founded two initiatives which work for diversity and inclusion. He regularly appears in television and print media to advocate social change.
