Dr. Karuna Luthra is the Director, Dept. of Nuclear Medicine at Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital
Dr. Karuna has more than two decades of experience in Nuclear Medicine practice. She is responsible for driving excellence in Diagnostic Nuclear Imaging services with SPECT-CT and PET-CT scanning. She specializes in PET-CT with various radiopharmaceuticals, including FDG for oncological and non-oncological indications, Ga68-DOTATATE, PSMA PET, novel imaging agents like FluoroDOPA brain PET, FAPI PET, Exendin PET, Pentixafor PET. She has extensive experience in Gamma camera scans for varied clinical domains including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephro-urology, GI, and other niche indications.
Dr. Karuna also has a major interest and expertise in Theranostics – i.e., ‘Molecular Targeted Radionuclide Therapy’ which is now a part of the management of many cancers. She has to her professional credit more than 1,000 Targeted therapies including High-dose Radio-iodine therapy for Thyroid cancer, PRRT for Neuroendocrine Tumors, PSMA Therapy for advanced Prostate cancer patients, with Beta (Lu177) radioligands, as well as Targeted Alpha Therapy. Dr. Karuna is responsible for leading Molecular Targeted Radionuclide Therapy which is now offered as part of the armamentarium of Oncological services at Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital.
Prior to this, Dr. Karuna was the Additional Director of the Nuclear Medicine department at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. Her previous professional associations include a long stint of 10 years with Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre and as a Lecturer at KEM Hospital. Prior to that, she worked at Tata Memorial Hospital as a member of the team that performed PET-CT imaging for the first time in India in 2004.
Dr. Karuna is President of the Western Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India and is leading its academic activities. She is a DNB Teacher for Nuclear Medicine. Her research works have been published in several national and international journals and she has authored a book chapter on Nuclear Cardiology.
Dr. Karuna completed her MBBS at Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata, where she graduated with Honours, multiple awards, and as the batch topper. She did her post-graduation in Nuclear Medicine from Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre.
She is dedicated to providing excellence in diagnostic Nuclear Medicine, and personalized theranostic solutions for her patients with compassion and care.
