Bedwetting & toilet training clinic is an outpatient clinic where children suffering from abnormal voiding habits are evaluated and treated by a team comprising of Paediatric Nephrologist, Paediatric Urologist and other medical professionals.
Such cases include children with persistent daytime &/or night time bedwetting, voiding disorders, medical conditions resulting in excessive production of urine and surgical conditions affecting a child’s kidney.
There is a significant percentage of children who suffer from persistent bedwetting beyond the expected physiological age. The causes for the persistent bedwetting can range from simple and entirely benign medical conditions to potentially serious medical or surgical conditions affecting a child’s kidneys. These problems can potentially affect the child’s self-esteem resulting in anxiety, depression and conflict with the parents. Hence, a thorough evaluation is essential to identify the exact cause of the persistent bedwetting or abnormal voiding pattern. Bedwetting clinics offers an ideal setting involving a team approach to assess the underlying problem in the child and offer proper counselling, advice on Toilet Training, thorough investigations and treatment.
It is estimated that almost 80% children will achieve urinary continence by the age of 5 years. So almost 20% children may continue to bed wet beyond this age and approximately 5% of such children may continue it even into their adolescence. Hence all children who continue to bed wet beyond 5 years of age should consult a doctor.
We at RFH provide simultaneous consultation by Paediatric Nephrologist, Paediatric Urologist followed by detailed evaluation (Urine Routine, Uroflowmetry, X-Ray & Ultrasound of Renal Tract) and comprehensive treatment for bedwetting, all in the same sitting.
